WELCOME TO THE SGA GOLF CLUB MEMBERS WEBSITE.
For 2021 up to date news items will appear here on a monthly basis and by selecting from the members menu above, you are able to check the seasons fixtures, latest handicaps and results of all formal competitions.
We are introducing in 2021 a number of informal competitions which are open to all members and contract holders. These competitions in 2021 will be in various formats and we hope to encourage more players to enter. Regular notices regarding news, competitions and social events will appear on the notice boards in the club shop and cafe.
We hope you all have a very enjoyable and successful season as we hopefully get into something more normal
Members should note that the monthly order of merit competitions are played on your choice of day – one midweek and one weekend. You choose which day and arrange your tee time. You must play with at least one other member. All competitions count towards your handicap, Order of merit, the Club Championship and Victor Ludorum finals in September. Details of qualification can be obtained from the secretary.
Following debate and no clear candidate coming forward in 2019 the Executive Committee decided that there will be no Captain going forward unless members decide there is a clear demand. Our club very much remains a format for competition and some socialising, rather than the call of the wider role a Captain plays at a more conventional Club.
The Executive Committee, therefore, run the Competitions, seeking help as needed. In addition, SGA will continue to organise regular additional, non-qualifying competition with a more social objective as in the past. Details will be posted here.
NEWS for 2021
No AGM was held in 2020 due to the lockdown in November and also in January. There being no significant business the Executive Committee agreed to continue for 2021.
With the restart following lockdown, it was decided that the outstanding and unplayed Club Championship and Victor Ludorum would be completed when the course was in better condition, probably end April, early May. This is now fixed for Saturday 1st May.
All other 2021 Competitions run from May to October, including additional “fun” Competitions to encourage more involvement from contract holders.

|The SGA Masters and Seve Trophy have been postponed for now but maybe added back in and will be additional competitions for the Order of Merit.|
Dates and details of informal competitions will be posted soon, the plan is to get to the next stage of Covid reduced measures in mid-May before setting dates and formats. Informal competitions will always be on Thursday Mornings, and always be nine-hole.
In June we will also run an evening 9 hole Pairs competition each week if plans progress. The idea is nine holes and fish and chips! Keep up to speed on this here soon.
HANDICAPS and the new World Handicap system and its impact!
Full details can be found outside the main building for men and women. Plans are in hand to hold some informal meetings when restrictions are reduced to help explain this more. However, during the process, our course was visited several times by County Officials to carry out the new rating process, and following new measurement technology we were 7 yards short of the minimum qualifying length required! Hence the new and extra tee on the 8th which gives us an extra 10 yards!
For the first time, we now have white and yellow tees -the whites for competition. A whole new section will appear here for to handicaps and the process of them settling down again.
