WELCOME TO THE SGA GOLF CLUB MEMBERS WEBSITE.
Up to date news items will appear here on a monthly basis and by selecting from the members menu above, you are able to check the seasons fixtures, latest handicaps and results of all formal competitions.
We have introduced for this year a number of informal competitions which are open to all members and contract holders. These competitions will be in various formats and we hope to encourage more players to enter. Regular notices regarding news, competitions and social events will appear on the notice boards in the club shop and cafe.
We hope you all have a very enjoyable and successful season.
Members should note that the monthly competitions are played on your choice of day – one midweek and one weekend. You choose which day and arrange your tee time. You must play with at least one other member. All competitions count towards your handicap, Order of merit, the Club Championship and Victor Ludorum finals in September. Details of qualification can be obtained from the secretary.
Following debate and no clear candidate coming forward for 2019 the Executive Committee decided that there will be no Captain this year. The role is still of course developing as the structure of the Club remains very much a format for competition rather than the wider role a Captain plays at a more conventional Club.
The Executive Committee will therefore run the Competitions, seek help as needed. In addition SGA will continue to organise regular additional, non qualifying competition with a more social objective as in the past. Details will be posted here.
NEWS from 2018
2018 was a memorable season for member, Adrian Musgrave. He set out to play as much as possible, practise as much as possible and get as much help and advice as possible to challenge for the Clubs Trophies! And his name now appears on the awards boards a great deal for the year 2018! Alongside wins in three monthly medal competitions, he claimed top spot in several of the club’s annual major tournaments.
In March he secured victory in the winter Matchplay league with his doubles partner, Dave Oscroft, and kept this going with a win in the SGA Masters in April. The SGA four-man team trophy followed in June, and by late August, he had built up enough points to clinch the club’s Order of Merit.
As the season rounds off in September, all those who have won competitions through the year go head-to-head in a final match with the best net scorer being awarded the Victor Ludorum trophy, and the player carding the best gross being crowned the Club Champion. With scores of 65 gross and 52 net, Adrian picked up both of these prestigious trophies.
Asked about his success through the season, he said, “I decided to set myself some dedicated goals this year and can only put my success’s down to the advice and coaching that I have had from James Carpenter and Richie Benyon, the Club professionals; and to the work of head greenkeeper Adam McKay and his team in keeping the course in such good condition. I’m now looking forward to next year,” he continued, “and to the 18-hole course that’s currently being built.”
